The 1996 Volkswagen Golf, Cabio and Jetta Air Conditioner – Heater system uses R-134a refrigerant. Variable displacement compressor increases or decreases pressure as necessary to maintain evaporator temperature near 32°F (0°C). Expansion valve restricts refrigerant flow, causing pressure differential. The A/C pressure switch is a triple-pressure switch, which monitors high side pressure. If pressure decreases to less than 17.4 psi, A/C pressure switch interrupts power to compressor clutch (low-pressure cutout). Switch closes when pressure increases to more than 34.8 psi.
The 1996 Volkswagen Golf Cabrio Jetta Air Conditioner – Heater system consists of following components: dust and pollen filter, plenum cover, evaporator drain, heater core connections and vacuum hose entry, 2-way valve, cooling fan control module, strip fuse, vacuum reservoir, vacuum hose, condenser, pressure relief valve, compressor clutch, ambient temperature switch, A/C pressure switch, receiver-drier, sight glass, services valves and expansion valves.
