At the Chicago Auto Show 2004 Toyota showed a bigger and stronger Tacoma. This car was in 18 different configurations, which included three cab variants, four transmission variants, two engine variants and two flatbed lengths. Toyota also introduced the equipment X-Runner, which replaced the bad salable S-Runner features of its predecessor.

The X-Runner came with the V6 engine in conjunction with a six-speed manual gearbox, 18 “alloy wheels, a lowered suspension by 50mm and an X-Brace suspension package. Toyota also added another hill descent assistant (DAC) and a Hill Start Assistant (HAC) for models to which were equipped with the TRD package.
