The mini-DIN connector designates a family of circular connectors, each with a diameter of 9.5 mm outer diameter and 7 mm in diameter of the metal collar and come in seven different versions with varying degrees of pin.

LocalTalk is a particular implementation of the physical layer of the AppleTalk networking system from Apple Computer Inc. company. LocalTalk system based on a twisted pair cable and a transceiver to operate all at a speed of 230’4 kbit/s.
Originally presented as AppleTalk Personal Network, LocalTalk used twisted pair cable with mini-DIN connector 3 pin. The cables connecting the various transceivers following the daisy chain system. Each transceiver had type 2 port Mini-DIN 3-pin cable to connect the serial adapter for Mac-9 Later, when introduced the Macintosh Plus serial adapter type Mini-DIN 8-pin transceivers were adapted to it.
