The 1995 Volvo 850 series is equipped with a 4-speed overdrive electronically controlled
automatic transaxle. The transaxle consists of accumulator pistons, oil pump, lock-up torque converter, clutch and brake units, valve body, 3 planetary gear sets and 4 electronic valve body solenoids.
The following schematic describes detailed interconnection between parts and components inside the Volvo 850 Transaxle System. The transaxle is also equipped with a shift lock and key interlock system which prevents shift lever from being moved from Park position unless brake pedal is applied. (click image to enlarge)
