Variable Resistor Electronic Symbol. As indicated by its name, a variable resistor, is a type of resistor which value is adjustable/change. Variable resistors have two basic components. The material that provides the variable resistance is called the element. and the movable component, which is used to set the resistance, is called the wiper, or brush.

There are two general ways in which variable resistors are used. One is the variable resistor which value is easily changed, like the volume adjustment of Radio.
