In a car, a drive belt is used to drive multiple peripheral devices in a car’s engine, such as an alternator, water pump, power steering pump, A/C compressor and air pump. There are different types of drive belts. Cars have either a V-shaped belt, with a cross section that looks like a V, or more commonly, a serpentine belt. Below schematic shows the 2001 Ford Mustang Drive Serpentine Belt Routing and Pulley.
