Telephone wiring modes refer to the wiring configurations used to connect auxiliary apparatus such as fax machines, data equipment, alarm panels, auto dialers, dial-up computer modem, etc. In telephony, mode 3 is a method of line sharing in which the line passes through a device (the mode 3 device) to connect to other devices for instance a mode 3 telephone wiring with the socket (usually 611 socket type) is used to connect an alarm system to the phone line for monitoring purposes.
