Thank you for access to 1997 CRV wiring diagrams. With this I was able to see that the brake pedal switch was a normally closed switch which opens when the brake pedal is pushed. (Hence the brake lights were on all the time even with the key out the ignition- its hot wired to the battery bus) I was able to then see that the polyester target which pushes against the switch had disintegrated with age – thats what those plastic bits were on the carpet! A potentially expensive job turned into a $3.00 fix. I will alays be grateful to you for having this great website
